1. Sheet Thickness and Material Quality
The sheet thickness used in the body of the steel door directly affects the security level. While standard doors have 0.8-1 mm sheet, premium models should have 1.2 mm or more thickness. The sheet should be galvanized to protect against rust. Ensure the same thickness of sheet is used on both the inner and outer surfaces of the door.
2. Frame Profile and Installation System
The frame profile is how the door is fixed to the wall. The ideal frame should be made of steel at least 2 mm thick and installed with anchors into the wall. The screws used in the frame should be stainless steel for longevity. Make sure gaps between the door and frame are sealed with weatherstripping.
3. Locking System and Security Certificates
Steel doors should have at least a dual locking system (bolt and latch). The key cylinder should be pick-proof and include at least 8 different locking points. Doors with a certificate of compliance to TS EN 1627-1630 standards indicate a high security class.
4. Fire Resistance and Thermal Insulation
Doors with a fire resistance rating of at least 30 minutes (EI 30) should be preferred. The insulation material used inside the door (rock wool, glass wool, etc.) should be fire-resistant and environmentally friendly. Also, doors with a low thermal transmittance (U-value) provide energy savings.
5. Sound Insulation and Isolation Details
Sound insulation is an important comfort factor in city life. The inner filling and gaskets of the steel door should reduce sound transmission. Especially for doors used in apartment entrances, the sound insulation value (Rw) should be above 30 dB.
6. Hinge Quality and Load Capacity
Hinges are critical parts that bear the weight of the door. At least 3 ball-bearing stainless steel hinges should be used. The load capacity of the hinges should be selected to be twice the weight of the door. Additionally, hinges with removable lock pins provide extra protection against burglary.
Additional points to consider:
- Coating and paint quality: Doors used on the exterior should have UV-resistant and scratch-resistant powder coating.
- Peephole and digital security: A wide-angle peephole or smart lock compatibility can be preferred.
- Warranty and technical service network: Choose brands with at least 5 years warranty and a widespread service network.
- Price-performance balance: Research the safest and most durable option, not the cheapest.
Remember: The steel door is the first security layer at the entrance of your home. Compromising on quality puts your life and property at risk.
